This summer, we’re excited to officially roll out HYROX-focused training at Aevitas Fitness! We wanted to give everyone a clearer picture of what the training cycle will look like, who it’s designed for, and how you can be part of it.

If you’ve been hearing the word “HYROX” more and more lately but aren’t exactly sure what it is, you’re not alone. HYROX has grown rapidly over the past few years because it blends several areas of fitness into one training and racing format:

  • Running
  • Strength endurance
  • Functional conditioning
  • Pacing and race strategy

In simple terms, HYROX rewards well-rounded fitness. You don’t need to be a specialist in one area, rather the goal is to build strength, endurance, and the ability to sustain effort over time. It's a perfect match for the General Physical Preparedness (GPP) approach we use at Aevitas in CrossFit and ViTaFIT programs!

Who Is This Training For?

One of the biggest misconceptions about HYROX is that it’s only for elite athletes or advanced gym members. Or that it's just for runners. That’s definitely not the case.

This summer’s training cycle is designed for:

  • Members who want to improve overall fitness
  • Anyone looking to become a stronger runner
  • People interested in eventually competing in a HYROX race
  • Members training for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, Spartan, or other endurance-focused event
  • Anyone who enjoys structured conditioning and performance-focused training

And yes, beginners are absolutely welcome!

Like all of our programming at Aevitas, workouts can be adjusted and scaled appropriately. Whether you’re already training consistently or just getting started with endurance-focused work, the goal is to help you improve from your current level.

What Will Training Look Like?

Our "Intro to HYROX" training that we've completed so far this Spring has been somewhat of a preview of how HYROX training sessions work. We're now ready to roll that into a full-fledged training program, with training blocks allowing athletes to "peak" at certain times!

Rather than random workouts week-to-week, the HYROX program will follow a structured progression throughout the summer and early fall.

Inside the training cycle, members can expect:

  • Running progressions
  • HYROX station practice
  • Strength endurance work
  • Race simulations
  • Team workouts
  • Recovery and pacing guidance
  • Benchmark testing

The overall focus is to steadily build capacity over time, improving both physical fitness and confidence with the format.

The Four Training Phases

The summer season will be broken into four distinct phases, each with a different purpose.

PRIME (Starting June 2)

This phase is all about building the foundation.

We’ll establish aerobic capacity, movement quality, and baseline endurance that future training can build upon.

IGNITE (Starting July 12)

Volume and intensity begin to increase here!

Members can expect more challenging conditioning efforts and longer sustained work as the body adapts to higher training demands.

OVERDRIVE (Starting August 24)

This will be the most demanding portion of the training cycle.

Training intensity peaks, race simulations become more frequent, and workouts begin to resemble real HYROX pacing and fatigue management.

SURGE (Starting September 28)

The final phase serves as preparation for HYROX Boston.

Training becomes more refined and focused as athletes prepare to perform well on race day.

Schedule & Key Dates

The HYROX Summer Training Plan officially begins June 1st and runs for 19 weeks.

Weekly Training Opportunities

  • Tuesdays at 7:00 PM @ Round Lake
  • Thursdays at 5:45 PM @ Guilderland
  • Weekend pop-up sessions throughout the summer
    • these will be announced 1-2 weeks in advance, and will alternate between the Aevitas locations

In-House Simulated Race Events

We’ll be hosting simulated HYROX race events on:

  • July 11 (tentative)
  • August 23 (tentative)

These events will give members the chance to test pacing, strategy, and overall progress in a fun, supportive environment.

More information will be released (including CONFIRMED dates) as these get closer, so keep an eye out for announcements!

Why We’re Excited About This

What makes HYROX such a natural fit at Aevitas is that it aligns closely with what we already value:

  • Functional fitness
  • Sustainable conditioning
  • Measurable progress
  • Community-driven training
  • Challenging yourself in new ways

Whether your goal is to race, improve endurance, get stronger, or simply try something different this summer, we think this training cycle will offer a lot of value.

We’re looking forward to building this program together and seeing members continue to grow throughout the season!
